Building Maintenance Assistant / Relief Ranger

Gilgandra Shire Council is seeking a Building Maintenance Assistant / Relief Ranger to join to join our Urban Services Team!

  • Permanent full time - 38 hours per week
  • Rostered day off every fortnight - an extra 22 days off a year!
  • Weekly pay cycle
  • Salary range $1094.54 - $1310.97 per week plus applicable penalties

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Maintain Council owned buildings, encompassing residential areas at Cooee Lodge Aged Care Facility, Jack Towney Hostel, and Orana Living.  The role will also handle general maintenance tasks at the Waste Facility and offer operational support to the Building Maintenance Officer, Infrastructure Services, Ranger Services, and other Council divisions as needed.
  • Fulfill the role of Relief Ranger services to ensure Council provides after hours cover for the Ranger.  On call Relief Ranger after hours are 5.00pm every second Thursday to 8.00am the following morning and 5.00pm every second Friday to 8.00am the following Monday.  It is also expected that this position will cover periods of annual leave for the full time Ranger.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award 2023.

ABOUT YOU

Council is looking for someone who has the following qualities, experience and/or qualifications:

  • Current driver licence
  • Relevant building maintenance and general handyman experience
  • Ability to operate and maintain small plant item
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills
  • Sound literacy and numeracy skills
  • Empathy towards people with disabilities and the elderly
  • Demonstrated ability to complete tasks unsupervised
  • National Police Certificate or willingness to obtain
  • Possession of or willingness to obtain WH&S Construction Induction Training (White Card)
  • Front end loader/backhoe certification
  • Forklift licence
  • Applicable trade experience and qualifications
  • Bonded asbestos handling qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment
  • Test & Tag accreditation
  • Confidently handle domestic animals such as cats and dogs
